This vase is formed of a tree branch where it passes through the outer layer of the tree. It's heavy, like keyaki and drilled to hang. It's hard to date this piece but it appears to have some age, so we'll conservatively say it's pre-1960.

A fine old Buddhist mask used for Kagura shrine dancing depicting one of the holy figures known as Bosatsu, the mask in the style called Mokuzo Bosatsu. The rank of Bosatsu is the last before attaining full Buddha hood. The paper on back is not legible to us, though appears to read Mo (?) Ho Bosatsu. Hanya is depicted in this lacquered noh mask. She's a beautiful woman turned to a demon by her own toxic jealousy. The level of her ire is indicated by the redness of the mask. Her gold eyes and teeth have lost much of their gilt but she's quite sound. Dated conservatively, pre-1960
