1920s Japanese box with wooden body, woven rattan sides and bronze plaque top with carved decoration of a bird (looks like a sparrow) beside rice stalk sheaves, bamboo fence and blooming chrysanthemums. Excellent crisp work, differently colored patinas, nice patina, compressed dust and some irregularities on the surface. Beautifully woven sides, lacquered black on the inside, some old chipping to the inside rim. Length 5 3/4 inches, width 4 1/4 inches, height 2 1/4 inches.
