1920s Japanese box with rosewood body and bronze plaque top with carved decoration of a tiger with alertly raised head on rocks beside bamboo grass. Excellent crisp work, differently colored patinas, eyes are gilded, nice patina, compressed dust on the surface. 1920s Japanese box with wooden body, woven rattan sides and bronze plaque top with carved decoration of a bird (looks like a sparrow) beside rice stalk sheaves, bamboo fence and blooming chrysanthemums. Excellent crisp work, differently colored patinas, nice patina, compressed dust and some irregularities on the surface. Beautifully woven sides, lacquered black on the inside, some old chipping to the inside rim. Length 5 3/4 inches, width 4 1/4 inches, height 2 1/4 inches.
