Ink and colors on paper, excellent impressionist rendition of a classic theme, superb free brushwork. Signed and sealed SHOSEN in lower right corner. Paper mounts, overall in great condition. A plunging waterfall viewed through overreaching pines by Ueda Manshu. The scene is defined with soft washes of ink layered with finely detailed ink brushwork reminiscent of his master Keinen at his finest.
The painting dates to the early 20th century, circa 1930.
Executed with ink on silk the painting is in good condition although very light foxing is visible in the lower field. The mounting is original to the painting and hangs well.

A pair of Japanese wagtails taking a rare break and basking in the glow of the rising sun. The artist has employed the unusual technique of painting the entire scroll, including the border, ichimonji and futai, with the scene actually reaching beyond the confines of the scroll.

A solitary pine heavily laden with snow interwoven with the upper reaches of a flowering plum tree. Patches of gold flecks and mica embedded in the white gofun give the painting a lovely reflective quality.
The painting dates to the early to mid 20th century. It is in good condition with slight losses of gofun and light foxing in the upper half.
