A nicely detailed slip molded bisque pottery figural (okimono) of a seated monkey. The monkey is in a sitting position with his two legs crossed and his right hand extended. The piece measures 4 1/2" high by 3" wide by 4 3/4" deep and is in excellent condition - fine definition to the fur on the monkey and a great expression on its face. We date the piece to late Taisho to mid Showa period - circa 1925-1960.

Vase of mallet shape with slightly concave sides, short cylindrical neck with minimally everting rim. Gray stone ware that at places turned brown through firing. White glaze running down, slightly thicker at bottom half of vase, some blue patches at the rim. Studio pottery. Japan, 20th century. H 7 1/8 in., diameter at foot 3 1/2 in.
Mint condition.

A superb teabowl (Chawan) by the master potter, Bernard Leach. The bowl measures 5 3/8" diameter by 2 3/4" high – it has his characteristic tan splatter glaze with two dark iron brown "Z" shaped decorations on the sides. Has the impressed stamp of the St. Ives Pottery established at St. Ives, Cornwall by Bernard Leach C.E.B., in 1921. A beautiful Japanese teabowl (Chawan) with a gorgeous thick glaze in shades of blue with purple streaks – the foot and base unglazed. The chawan measures 4" diameter at the top – 2" diameter at the base - and stands 3 1/8" tall. An impressed two character mark just above the raised foot – not translated. We date this chawan to the Showa period, mid-20th century. Excellent condition - only a slight sign of usage on the rims of the foot.

This is a vintage red Shino (aka-shino yaki) stoneware teapot from Japan. Shino stoneware, still made today, is produced in small villages scattered high in the mountainous region of Mino. The Shino yaki tradition began some time in the 1500s.

This is a lovely Mishima-style Karatsu stoneware tea pot. It has the trademark repeating impressed (stamped) design of Mishima ceramics, with a milky white glaze. The clay body is brown. The lid sits inside the rim of the pot. It has a brand new bent twig handle. Very nice pot.

This is a nicely potted incense case (kogo) of Japanese Kyo-yaki ware. The kogo is covered with an unctuous thick grayish white glaze and portrays a fine ram resting in a reclining position with an alert expression on its face. The horns are outlined in gold. It dates from the 1950’s, Showa period, and was made by the potter – "Torin Terachi" of Kyoto. His signature is on the original box which comes with the kogo.
