The size of Chawan: 4 1/4" Dia x 2 3/4" High. Very nice and finely made Japanese Kuro Raku Chawan. The thickness of wall is only 3/16"(6 mm). Chawan has beautiful texture of Yuzu(Japanese orange) surface. It has nice touch feeling when you hold chawan. It is made by Yamasawa Shokou. It came with Tomobako with writing on the top, Kuro Yuzu Yu(glazing), Chawan, Shokou zo. Then sealed. The condition of chawan excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. The bowl sit well. Dating from 1950's.

A humble landscape is visible through the light of a crescent moon on this small two panel Byobu made for use in the Japanese Tea Ceremony. A thatch roofed village huddles in the cool blue night on one panel, visible with the negative light of shadow. The imagery has been hand dyed into the cloth, then mounted on this small screen. At 23" in height, this elegant hanaire can display a trailing arrangement with no impediments. Its slender and graceful form is shaped from a hollowed limb or trunk and offers many interesting views. The reservoir is made of metal and painted black. There's one spot of insect damages as seen in the photos. The wood is sound and shows no softening or decay. Probably dates from the early Showa period.

This little shizen-boku or burl hanaire (flower vase) intrigues and engages from any side. It's coated with a clear lacquer which is still bright on the underside but less glossy on the upper surfaces. The perfectly-crafted and fitted copper insert matches the color of the burl and still holds water. The workmanship of the insert dates it to the Meiji or Taisho period.

Excellent Chagama Set with Hakat Dolls depicting a scene of Tea being enjoyed by a Japanese couple on tatami straw mat. Estimated to be dating back from late Meiji to early Taisho period. The main chagama is of Arare style while the furo is made of bronze which comes its original wooden case.
