ca. early to mid Twentieth century 35" x 54", 89 cm x 137 cm Constructed of four panels of intensely inky-dark indigo dyed cotton, this noren, or door covering, shows an graphically placed kanji (Chinese character) enclosed in a thick white circle. The white of the resist-dyed kanji is yellowed from age, however the cotton is in fine condition and the indigo dyed cloth is spectacularly dense in color.
