Japan. 1927-1939. The basic silk rinzu (damask) fabric of this haori has been prominently patterned with yuzen-dyed fan motifs. The fan is an old Japanese motif that represents - with it's folding and unfolding - an auspicious omen for the "unfolding" of the future. Very good condition, with minor small patina, stains and fraying. 49" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 39" height.

Japan. 1912-1926. Older crepe-silk bingata kimonos are rare, especially in this condition. Bingata kimonos were created using the katazome technique (stencil dyeing), and refers to a unique style from the large southern island of Okinawa. Japan. 1920-1940. This vivacious haori has some characteristics of a closel-related type of garment called michiyuki. This example shares the michiyuki use of metal clip inside fasteners, but not the standard michiyuki characteristic of squared tailoring about the collar/lapel. Rinzu silk with bold yuzen dyring and painting. Very good condition, with a bit of tearing about one or two of the metal clips. 48" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 43" height

Japan. 1912-1926. This Ro (sheer, for summer) silk boy's kimono was surely made for a rich family and for a special occasion, such as a wedding. This kimono is part of a set of kimono and white juban undergarment. The motifs were accomplished using yuzen-dyeing and surihaku gold outlining. Five family mon (family crests). Excellent condition, supporting the theory that this is a special, ceremonial kimono. It may have been worn only once. 33" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 40" height.
