The kikyo or bellflower family crest is the central image in this four-panel indigo-dyed cotton noren. The bellflower is a five-petal, indigo colored flower that blooms in August and is known in Japan as one of the 'seven plants of autumn.'
This is a strking and simply designed noren, whose indigo blue is clear and very much a cobalt blue. The dominant crest, along with the family name, written in kanji on the proper right pane... Click for details

This is a nice silk sakiori obi. Sakiori is a fabric which is hand woven of shreds torn from old cloth such as kimono, furoshiki, futon cover and so on. This one is woven of shreds from white and black silk kimonos. It has nice brown and olive green color in the both ends. In excellent condition except for a brownish part in one side. Taisho or early Showa era ( 1920s~1930s ). 19.5cm x 2m68cm 7.7" x 8ft9"

This is a boy's kimono for a celebration. Fabric is tsumugi which is woven of hand spun and hand woven silk threads. It has an attractive design of a traditional "shobu-gawa", iris pattern which are tie dyed. This is a gorgeous custom ordered kimono. It has "se-mamori" which is ornamental stitches with red and white treads in the back for a charm against evils. In excellent condition. Taisho or early Showa era ( 1920s~1930s ). 83cm x 102cm 32.7" x 41.2"

This is an indigo dyed cotton man's yukata, or unlined, informal 'lounging' kimono. It is dyed using the taiten shibori technique. The bolt of cotton cloth is squeezed and compressed compactly down its warp threads, pulled into a tight bundle. It is then placed in an indigo vat to be dyed.
The result is an overall pattern of small blips of dark indigo, as can be seen in the detail photos here. This technique produces an allover dappling... Click for details
