Japanese 20th century wooden mold in the shape of a fan, which the Chinese character, KOTOBUKI, for happiness, for making Japanese OSHIMONO, glutinous rice-flour cakes. The mold's case measures 10 1/4" long, 5 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall. The cake part measures about 7 3/8" wide by 4" tall by 1" thick.

The mold's case measures 6 3/8" long, 4 1/2" wide and 2" tall. The cake part measures about 4 1/4" long by 3 1/2" wide by 1 5/8" thick.

Japanese mid 20th century Hokkaido carved large wooden Ainu bear. Signed and dated by artist on bear's feet. The bear has the date June 10, 1961 carved into one of the feet. Apparently the bear was presented to a teacher. 36" long by 19" tall by 15" depth.

This is a lovely large lacquered tray made in Japan. It was made using the "coopering" technique, in which strips of wood are cut at an angle and assembled into a circle (like a barrel). This tray is lacquered, then wrapped with twisted strips of bamboo, which are also lacquered.
