A graceful low table from Thailand has a concave top to hold offerings of flowers or fruit. The table is made of Thai teak, which has not been available for a number of years due to a government prohibition on harvesting in the endangered teak forests. The Cambodian and Burmese teak now used in Thailand have a different grain and color. Pair of teak wood carvings from an abbot’s chair in a Lanna Thai Buddhist Temple. About 30 to 50 years. The one piece has a clay votive tablet of a sitting Buddha in the center while the other one appears to have a standing Buddha as part of the woodcarving. Both mounted on a black steel stands with felt bottoms. H: 21cm/8.2in.
