Finely woven textile from the Philippines. Possibly an example of a T'nalak bark cloth weaving from the T'boli tribe. The weaving hangs about 47" (plus 3" of fringe) in length from a decorative wood rod and is about 19 3/4" wide (33" including the wood rod). The top of the textile is decorated with red, white and black bead work accented with brass bells. Imported in the 1980's, this textile was stored safely away and has never been hung. It is in excellent condition.

This beautiful textile is in a traditional Laotian style and was hand woven in the “Khet” process in which the warp yarns are cotton thread and the weft yarns are raw silk. The design is executed in a colorful geometric weave with stylized birds and star patterns in red, green, orange and copper against a black background. Each end has three rows of stars separated by horizontal lines and a self fringe. All natural dyes have been used. This type of weaving is very time consuming and is becomin... Click for details

Circa 30-year old “ragidup”, woven by the Toba Batak people from Sumatra. Ragidup literally means “thread or pattern of life”, and is the most sacred and prestigious of all Batak textiles. Ragidups are given as blessing gifts by the bride’s father to the groom’s mother. They are also worn as mourning headdresses, used as baby announcements and wrapped around the shoulders of newly-wed couples at weddings. This ragidup was constructed from 5 pieces sewn together: the 2 white end panels, the cent... Click for details

We recently visited Cambodia and were able to find several silk weft-patterned ikats dating from the period before the Vietnam war. This one, like most, had been sewn into a woman's sarong. It measures 38" x 64" and is in very good condition showing little wear and with only one tiny hole less than the size of a grain of rice. Very typical muted natural colors.

We have several different pattern in stock, all at si... Click for details
