An attractive pair of hardwood carvings of a man and a woman in traditional Balinese costume. These items were made for the "tourist " market mid 20th century (circa 1920-1960). Condition - very good. A removeable hilt is missing from the kriss (Indonesian ceremonial knife) which is tucked into the back of the man's sarong. Otherwise no damages and no restoration. Man -13inches(33cm) high. Woman 12.5inches(32cm) high.

5.25” Height x 1.125” Width x 1” Dept. This fetish, carved from horn, is from Borneo and at least 70 years old. Dayak tribes carved these figures to hold magical or spiritual powers. This figure has a heart-shaped face and sits in the traditional knees-up crouching pose. The cylindrical body has a dark dense high sheen patina.

This carved teakwood holder and brass bell invoke both the sounds and aesthetics of Southeast Asia. The wood holder is from Thailand, and the brass bell is from neighboring Burma (Myanmar). Staffs in Southeast Asian and Indonesian cultures generally connote power and magic. This is a simple, but beautifully carved example, complete with it's horse hair tassel encased in a bronze cylindrical top. Just below are carved 4 human figures with arms held to their chests. Antique rustic solid teak wheels from Asia. Deeply aged wood grain and finished with light lacquer and bees wax to preserve and augment the beauty of the antiquities. Originally handmade with primitive tools from a single log, because there was no other way to do it.
