A small cossack outfit with 12 bullet pockets has a dashing cut that evokes intrigue in the Caucasus. Its small size suggests it was made for a young boy but the beautiful construction of the wool coat, satin shirt and cotton trousers further suggest it had more importance than a mere costume. A large, very luxurious and completely unused, vintage Afghanistan “Bokhara” style carpet dating from about 1960 or earlier. The carpet was part of a San Francisco rug dealer’s inventory whose estate was finally liquidated in the late 1980s. These red and black traditional Afghanistan carpets are direct descendants of those woven by Ersari Turkoman tribesmen who migrated from Turkestan to the villages of northern Afghanistan in the late 1800s.
