Lovely footed round box, the hinged top picturing cherubs around a woman. It measures 5" tall and 5 1/2" wide and is in perfect condition.

An antique Chinese seal chop of soapstone with an image of Hotei. Chinese seals are used with red ink or cinnabar paste (zhusha). A seal in an East is a general name for printing stamps and impressions which are used in lieu of signatures in personal documents, office paperwork, contracts, art, or any item requiring acknowledgement or authorship. The process started in China and soon spread across East Asia.

This is a lovely rosewood music box with a cylinder that plays six tunes. The cylinder can be replaced and others added, but we only have this one for the box. There is no list of the songs it plays, but it has one of the loveliest sounds of any music box we've had. It measures 27 1/2" long x 11 3/4" wide x 8" tall.

 

An antique Korean Nong (side chest) made of a burl hardwood book-match. Beautiful Camelia blossom motif on the hinged doors. Nickel hardware with a aged patina. Scholar's taste in design, this chest would work well as a side table or an accent piece.

Beautiful 4-string lute ("saranghi"), the top in the shape of a head holds the four keys, the body itself is made of two parts of heart shape. Wood, with nice dark-brown glossy patina. The lower part is covered with animal skin affixed with tiny wood pegs. Himalaya, 19th century. Height: 22 1/4" (55,6 cm). The lute is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. The potter signature is written on the bottom.

There is not much information about this potter available even in Japan and his birth year is unknown.
He worked in the Hinno kiln of Aichi Prefecture in late 19 century.
