A very beautiful Japanese lacquered ginger jar, in contrasting colors of black and red lacquers. This has been one of my personal favorites and comes from my private collection. The jar dates to the 1940's and is in excellent condition and measures 6.5” high x 5” diameter.

A large flaring bronze dating from the first half of the Meiji period with key frets top and bottom and a band of sculpted waves crashing about rocks in which turtles play. On the base is a circular dragon dial in relief. The vessel is 15 inches (38 cm) tall, 9-1/2 inches (24.5 cm) diameter at the top, and in fine condition. There is a fan shaped inset in the rim, possible covering the stem where the bronze was poured into the mold. Fine detail and an excellent cast.

The woman is 2.9 inches (7.5cm) tall by 1.3 inches (3.2cm) wide, and the man is 2.8 inches (7.2cm) tall by 1.3 inches (3.2cm) wide

Here is a roughly textured E-karatsu dish from the kiln of Nakazato Tarouemon XII (Father of the current Tarouemon, d. 1969) enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box. Perfect for serving sweets during the tea ceremony. Inside the dish is decorated with a heavily laden rice stalk, symbol of prosperity. It is 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter and in perfect condition.

This wonderful tea bowl is a Hagi-yaki (Hagi ware). Hagi-yaki has been made since the end of the 16th century in the region of Hagi, a small city in the Yamaguchi prefecture on the Sea of Japan. A Korean potter, who was brought back to Japan at that time, started the tradition. This particular piece was made by a fairly well known Hagi potter named Yamane Seigen, born in 1952. He is also a martial arts instructor and high levels of energy and concentration can be found in his pottery...

This splendid red Raku-yaki tea bowl is yet another example of utsushi-chawan (mirror chawan) made by Kyoto potters from the Meiji period (1867-1912) until the beginning of the 20th century.
