This beautiful bowl is a production of contemporary artist Okugawa Shun-Emon whose kiln is located in the city of Arita, on the island of Kyushu, in Southern Japan. Arita wares have been known since the beginning of the Edo period (1603-1867) for the quality of their porcelain. Shun-Emon was born in 1949 and he is a known maker of white porcelain (hakuji)...

Paintings with great provincial charm cover the front of this large mid-19th century Mongolian trunk. Each image is loaded with symbolic meaning. This splendid vase is an Obata Kakiemon production. Hideyoshi Obata was a businessman who co founded a kiln in Arita with Kakiemon XII, in 1919. The kiln was named Obata Kakiemon and was allowed to use the Kakiemon marking used at the time called “kakufuku”, which is the marking on this vase. The collaboration between Kakiemon XII and Obata was short lived as the artist and the businessman were always fighting about the direction of their venture...

Offered for sale is a wonderful early 20th century, apothecary pharmacy bottle from Eli Lilly & Co. labeled “CHLORODYNE”. The back side sports 2 labels, one of which mentions the 1906 Food & Drug Act, and the other indicates the pharmacy “L.J. Madsen & ? – Hartford, Conn.
