Traditional ethnic jewelry from south Sulawesi, this silver medallion is called a jumping and was tied around the waist of a young child to hide its sex. This was not done so much to preserve its modesty as to protect it from sorcery and malevolent spirits.

Traditionally the backs were made of a gold and silver alloy and the front sides were silver. This piece is 2-5/8 inches wide and 2-7/8 top to bottom. 19th to early 20th century.

This Nepalese finely cast silver Amida Nyorai Buddha from the mid -20th century is seated in dhyanasana on a gilt wide octagonal lotus pedestal, a pierced gilt double halo mandorla with a scrolled motif and a small seated Amitabha Buddha at the top. The Buddha’s hands are in the Raigo-in mudra. It is 6 1/8” high.

Vintage Tibetan bronze Vajra / Dorja (Thunderbolt) that was acquired from a large collection of Buddhist antiquities from Southeast Asia. The shape of the Vajra has four outer prongs with dragons, two pointed ends, and a middle shield design. Age is from early 20th century. Size is 5” W x 1” Diameter; and weighs 5 oz. Bronze finely etched Yatata brush and ink holder with a variety of floral and fern designs. The holder has two lidded openings, one for the brush and other for ink. The Yatata measures 1-1/8”H x 7-3/4”W x 1-5/8”D at the widest, and weighs 10 oz. The condition is good with a darkened patina. Age is mid 20th century.
