Monochrome
Antique Chinese monochrome porcelain. The tradition for Chinese monochrome porcelain can be said to have its roots in the Song dynasty - continuing through the Yuan and Ming dynasties. But it is the reign of Kangxi, beginning of the Qing dynasty that saw great innovation of glazes and refinement of production continuing through the reign of Qianlong and beyond. Almost any color could be imagined. Examples, ranging from Dehua white to mirror black, include various hues of primary and secondary colors and with varying glaze characteristics. Examples (many of which are available here for purchase) include cobalt and powder blue, claire-de-lune, celadon, langyao or sang-de-beouf, coral, flambe, apple green, turquoise, teadust, robin's egg, yellow, amber, cafe-au-lait and others.
