The censer is cast with twin upright handles and the body is decorated with three taotie panels divided by flanges. It is raised on three tall supports each decorated with a stylised mask and a flange. Late Ming Dynasty, 16th - 17th century. H : 25,9 cm. There is an old inventory Number to the base of the body. The U-shaped body with broad flaring mouth supported on three tall splayed legs, cast around the body with a key-fret band and to the underside of the spout with a nine character Mark. The bronze body absolutely delightful casted and additionally incised even in the smallest details. The beast modelled with a fierce expression portrayed by bulging eyes and bared teeth, with long curled mane and horns. The tail elegantly curved and detailed with finely incised lines. This censer is noticeable by its absolutely very well done, perfect shape of the body. By the particularly warm golden colour of the alloy, and by the additional decor ( with some calligraphy ) to the inside of the piece. The surface of the piece nearly appears like gilded.
