19th century ivory netsuke of a sitting monkey with two young jointly performing “speak, hear and see no evil” routine. Wonderful carving with fantastic faces and excellent hairwork, great detailing - see ginkgo and other leaves on the bottom. Pleasant wear, beautiful warm patina, very clever and charming piece. Beautiful shape with unusually long neck, decorated in Japanese taste with various flowers among scrolling vines on white background. Beautiful patina, compressed dust on the surface, very pleasant feel of age, in great condition, no dents or star cracks. Height 6 1/8 inches.
