Very unusual 19th century Chinese official hat finial with blue lapis lazuli bead denoting 4th civil rank. This type of rank insignia was introduced by the Yongzheng emperor in 1727 for use on ji guan - the semi-formal hat. Rather unusual 19th century Chinese soapstone seal carved on the top with two seated scholar wearing traditional robes, their hands on what appears to be a fisherman’s basket. Excellent carving, beautiful patina and obvious wear attesting to the age of the object. The bottom is carved with four sunken characters in two cartouches and can be translated as HALL FOR CULTIVATION OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, red seal paste in the grooves. 19th century (may be as early as 18th) small Chinese devotional bronze Buddhist figure wearing a monk’s robe and holding a bowl in front of it. Judging by the bowl, the figure represents Bhaiṣajyaguru - a medicinal Buddha. Very nicely mold cast figure of a type used on house altars, beautiful devotional wear, compressed dust in crevices. Height 2 1/8 inches.
