19th century Chinese soapstone seal carved on the top with a one-horned chimera, its head turned right. Excellent carving, beautiful patina and obvious wear attesting to the age of the object. The bottom is carved with four sunken characters, red seal paste in the grooves - the impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Top of the scroll outsides are decorated with blooming flowers on lattice background, ruy clouds motif borders. Very nice quality work, wear and pitting consistent with age, in excellent condition.
