19th century Chinese porcelain small water dish for a cricket cage. The inside is painted in underglaze blue with a resting crane under a moon partially obscured by clouds. Wonderful quality uninhibited painting, beautiful glaze with tiny bubbles. Paste with typical blemishes, one tiny chip at the rim (can be see at about 1 o’clock on Enlargement 1). Very quiet subtle piece for scholar’s studio. Diameter 1 13/16 inches, height 7/16 inches.

19th century (late Qing Dynasty) Chinese porcelain octagonal cup (possibly meant to serve as salt) with enameled decoration of a magpie among branches, and turquoise enameled inside. Nice potting typical for the period, wonderful quality delicate painting, hallmarked in red enamel on the bottom "Dwelling in the contemplation of ink (study, scholarship) and wealth". Someone obviously wanted the best of both worlds. Diameter at the widest 2 7/16 inches.

Very rare two-handled 18th century (1730s) Chinese export porcelain chocolate cup decorated on the outside with underglaze scrolling design and two reserves with enamelled scenes of birds among bamboo and flowering peony. Judging by the fineness of the enamelling it looks to be late Yongzheng emperor period, or very early Qianlong.
