19th century small ivory netsuke of a dancing man with one foot raised and a fan in one hand. His shaved head and long pigtail indicates that he is Manchu rather than Han Chinese. Beautiful delicate carving, excellent portrait quality face, great depiction of swirling clouds on his coat, buttons are inlaid with green staghorn, wonderful mellow patina. Rather unusual 19th century Chinese pewter wine pot of 6-lobed section with brass and copper inlays of various plants, leaves and butterflies on the sides and the top. Very good quality work with wealth of details (does not photograph well). Rims of the body and cover are inlaid with brass, large convenient handle. The subject of the netsuke is sannin jogo - the three drunkards showing the varying effects of sake: laughter, weeping and anger. 19th century wooden netsuke of seated Jo and Uba taking a quiet smoke break, with a rake and a broom in front of them. Jo and Uba are an elderly couple living as spirits in pine trees in Takasago. Unusual treatment of the subject, wonderful faces, great detailing - see the pipes and tobacco pouch. Beautiful patina, wear consistent with age. Length 1 3/4 inches.
