Rather unusual 19th century Nagoya school ivory netsuke of rats enjoying rice from Daikokuís bag - 3 on top of the bag and 2 seen through the torn canvas. 19th century Nagoya school wooden netsuke of a seated mythical beast tenroku with its head raised and turned back. Very rare subject, like any dark object does not photograph well. The beast has the head of a goat / dragon with beard and one horn, body of a lion with characteristic star pattern on its coat, hooves of a goat and tufty camel like hump and mane along the spine. 19th century boxwood netsuke of a seated puppy with its head turned left and its tongue sticking out. Superb face, excellent depiction of its chubby bulk and paws, ears are cleverly turned down to provide for fewer protruding parts, beautiful hairwork. Late 18th to early 19th century wooden netsuke of a sitting boy wearing a shishi mask that is too big for him while leaning on a drum in front of him. These masks are usually used in shishimai dance, and the face of the boy can be clearly seen inside the mask (difficult to photograph). Very nicely carved, superb wear and patina, large and deep himotoshi, excellent sculpture. Length 1 5/8 inches.

18th century wooden netsuke of a woman wearing a long robe and an animal shape headdress, and modestly covering her mouth with a sleeve. Inscribed SAKON on the bottom of her shoes - I believe inscription refers to Japanese poetess Onna no Sakon (10th-11th century). Unusual subject, strong early carving with beautiful flow to the robe, eyes of the animal in her headdress are inlaid with black horn. Differently sized deep himotoshi, excellent wear and patina. Height 2 5/8 inches.
