Rather unusual 19th century Japanese cloisonne vase of a kind used in home shrines to hold incense sticks. Beautiful shape with unusually long neck, decorated in Japanese taste with various flowers among scrolling vines on white background. Beautiful patina, compressed dust on the surface, very pleasant feel of age, in great condition, no dents or star cracks. Height 6 1/8 inches.

Rather unusual early 19th century Japanese cloisonne scholar’s brushwasher decorated with various flower roundels on light blue background with scrolling clouds. Every roundel is different, very pleasant finish with original pitting, bottom is plain metal with nice wear and patina. No cracks, bald areas seen on the top of the inside are original (were fired this way). Unusual late 19th century Japanese cloisonne cigarette case decorated on front and back with scenes of a butterfly in flight above peony flowers, and blossoming cherry tree, respectively. Excellent quality work, very nice design, black and green borders with scroll design. Gold washed on the inside, overall in excellent condition, hinges and lock work perfectly. Size 3 1/2 inches long, 3 1/8 inches high.

19th century porcelain Hirado netsuke of a monkey dressed as a Sambaso dance actor, wearing a hat and holding a fan and a rattle in its hands. Its head and tongue are movable. Very funny facial expression, good overall modeling, delicate underglaze blue typical for Hirado, loss to the tip of its tongue. Height 2 1/4 inches.
19th century ivory ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in the round as a doll representing Zen Buddhism Patriarch Daruma with his legs and arms stretched in front of him, forming a cord opening. Excellent clever carving, great face and hairy limbs, wonderful warm patina. Height 3/4 inches.
19th century Asakusa school staghorn netsuke of obihasami type carved with a design of a woven fence. The hooks at the top and bottom of the piece go around the edges of obi - a sash holding a kimono. Excellent clever and subtle piece typical of Asakusa school, warm patina, darker porous areas as is usual with staghorn. Length 4 inches.
19th century Japanese bronze vase of mimikuchi shape with classic spiral design on the body. Bronze mimikuchi (“handle-mouth” - vase with 2 large hadles starting from the mouth) derives its shape and decoration from ancient ceramics, and were made in Japan starting from at least 17th century. Beautifully made, very pleasing shape, nice patina. Height 3 7/8 inches.
