Taisho period (1920s) Japanese hammered copper chakin tarai - bowl used in tea ceremony for soaking tea cloth & whisk. Excellent piece in arts and crafts spirit, hammered body with petal-shaped rim and silvered inside. Obvious signs of usage on the inside, beautiful 2-colored patina on the outside. Stamped on the bottom with a 4-character maker’s mark on the bottom. Produces very pleasing and long lasting sound when tapped. Diameter 7 1/4 inches, height 2 inches.
