19th century Japanese tobacco pipe consisting of 2 metal parts and a bamboo/reed stem. Mouthpiece has silver body with multimetal inlays depicted a samurai on a horse. Pair of late 19th century Japanese silvered bronze okimono / scroll weights cast in a form of two of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune: Daikoku with his mallet standing on 2 bales of rice, and Ebisu seated on rockery and holding a large sea brim under his arm. Nice modeling, good smiling faces, wonderful warm patina, some wear to silvering, pleasantly heavy. Nice little objects for scholar’s table, overall in great condition. Height 4 5/8 inches.

Early 19th century Nagoya school wooden netsuke of a terrified rat catcher holding a club in one hand while his charge escapes from a box and climbs on the shoulder of the man. Like any darker netsuke does not photograph well. Superb carving with great face, excellent rendition of his strained muscles, eyes of the rat are inlaid with black horn. Early 19th century ivory netsuke of standing sarumawashi - traveling monkey showman - holding his pet on a leash while it sits on his shoulder. Strong early piece (see his unhappy face), excellent detailing of sarumawashi’s robe and a short jacket that the monkey is wearing, beautiful wear and patina consistent with age. Deep himotoshi in accordance with the habit of the time. Height 2 1/8 inches.

19th century ivory netsuke of baying spotted deer standing on a base carved with a seal on the bottom. Elegant carving with pure clean lines, wonderful depiction of volume of the deer body, beautiful depiction of its spotted coat, eyes inlaid with light horn, painted pupils.
