Chinese scholar’s wooden box carved on the outside in medium relief with a continuous design of of a gnarled pine tree. Beautiful object for scholar’s table, can be used for storing small scholar’s objects such as inksticks or seals. Excellent quality carving - see the texture of the bark on the trunk and delicately carved clusters of needles. I believe the material is called wang yang wood. Wonderful staining, great patina. Width 4 5/8 inches at the widest, height 2 inches.

20th century ivory netsuke of a horse wearing simple trappings, with graceful bend to its neck and beautiful flow of its mane. Perfectly captured essence of the creature, wonderful clean carving made out of beautiful even ivory. Extremely well carved, wonderful delicate etching, excellently balanced.
