Rather unusual 1920s (Showa Emperor period) Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with long neck and mock leaf handles. Porcelain with gray glaze and identical delicate transfer decoration of fern leaves in underglaze blue and red on two sides. Use of underglaze red is very uncommon. Excellent humble piece in Japanese taste, overall in excellent condition. Can also be used for tea ceremony. Height 6 7/8 inches. The piece comes from a small East Coast collection.

Very delightful and unusual 1920s stoneware tokkuri - sake bottle - with glazed body and enameled decoration of flowering daisies among vines and grasses. Very pleasing squared shape with horizontal ribbing, typical Japanese spiral finish to the unglazed recessed bottom. Excellent quality painting with thick application of enamel, great design in Japanese taste. Wonderful crackle to the glaze. Very delightful 1920s Banko ware vase with enameled decoration of a toy tiger with nodding head and paper strips hanging off bamboo branch. Most probably the decoration represents some festival connected with children. Excellent quality painting with precise detailing, great design in Japanese taste. 1920s (early Showa) Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle -with enamel decoration of a double gourd with leaves and tendrils. Dried double gourds were used for storing sake while traveling (the waist of the gourd providing for easy hanging off the belt), so the decoration motif seems quite fitting the function of the bottle.
