| 17th century Indonesian metal earring from Sulavesi. The metal is rather soft, and may be either pure silver or pewter - I am not sure. Wonderful work, beautiful surface with great feel of age, pleasantly heavy. Height 1 11/16 inches. The piece comes from the collection of Samuel Eilenberg - tags attached - a world-renowned mathematician and a legendary collector. He was the recipient of 1986 Wolf Prize, mathematics’ equivalent of a Nobel Prize. He was equally bright as a collector, his area of expertise being small bronzes and stone objects from India and South-East Asia. Objects from his collection can be found today in the Metropolitan Museum, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the V&A in London. | ||
