19c Japanese porcelain sake cup by EIRAKU
19th century/Meiji period Japanese porcelain sake cup with silver lining on the inside and decoration of flowering lotus flowers among scrolling vines above stylized clouds. The cup is decorated in fa-hua technique developed by Chinese at the end of the 15th century, with lines of raised slip keeping colored glazes from running together, very much like cloisonne technique. Color scheme also follows closely the fa-hua palette with yellow, blue, aubergine and turquoise enamels. Stamped on the bottom with glazed over Eiraku seal by one of the later generations of potters from the Eiraku line. Very pleasant and well made piece, quite rare, in excellent condition. Diameter 2 1/8 inches.
