| 19c wooden netsuke of Shoki the Demon Queller humiliating an oni by making it do the Sambaso dance (see the characteristic Sambaso rattle and fan in oni’s hands), while holding a rope tied around the creature’s waist and nudging it with a bamboo stick. Very unusual subject, excellent quality carving - see Shoki’s severe face with luxurious beard and finely incised textile patterns. Wonderful wear and patina. Signed HARUAKI on the back.
