| 19th century ivory netsuke of a caparisoned elephant on a base. The animal appears to be in very good mood - looks like it is smiling somehow. Wonderful quality carving with great detailing, excellent face and skin folds of the beast, precise etching of textile border. Old age lines, beautiful wear and patina. Signed left to right MASAYUKI in rectangular reserve on the side of the base - the artist is listed in NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick, p. 748.
