A large Japanese formal, split, smoked bamboo, Ikebana basket from the Meiji Period. The basket is done in double weave, with hexagonal and horizontal plaiting on the body and chrysanthemum plaiting on the base. Japanese, Edo period, Chinese style, landscape scroll, entitled "Fu rin te sha" (Maples in the Mountains). The scroll is double boxed, with appraiser/authenticator notes included on the underside of the inner box lid. The artist is identified as being Aimi Takahisa, born 1796 and died 1844.
