sold

A WWll Imperial Japanese Army Air Force Airman / pilot's summer flying helmet / hat and portrait. The large photo portrait ( 9" x 11 1/2") is of an unknown army airman wearing a two piece type summer flying suit, helmet and goggles. The three star collar tabs indicate that his rank is most likely Sergeant Major. The summer flying helmet is of typical light tan leather with IJAAF orange star on the front. Chin strap and rear adjustment strap show signs of use. Helmet features full arsenal markings and stamps on the inner right ear 'cup' (see photo). Item is misshapen after being stored flat for almost half a century. There are aviation fuel / oil stains and odor on the left hand side of the hat showing clear use of the helmet in action. Dimensions: 13" x 10" (flat) excluding chinstrap. Both items came from an estate sale of a WW2 veteran. Two excellent items of WW2 IJAAF aviation history not to be missed.

sold

A late WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto sword with 'filler' blade (blunt dummy, not original and only to keep the fittings together). This type of sword was favored by the Special Naval Landing Forces, the Japanese equivalent of the Marines (but not exclusively). This is a heavy sword with steel scabbard. Near the tsuba is scratched the officer's surname and the city name Himeji. There are two mekugi ana on the tsuka. From wear on the saya, it appears that this sword has seen some action in the field. The blade is held in place by a clasp. Overall condition is good with all original seppas in place. Total length: 39". An excellent piece to complete any display of WWll Japanese Army items.
