Nora Houston (American, 1883-1942)

A lifelong Richmond resident, Houston was a painter, graphic artist and teacher. She received her training from K.H. Miller; B.P. Vonnoh; R. Henri; W. M. Chase. She also studied in Paris with Simon, Blanche, Menard, and Cotter. Houston exhibited at the Pennsylvania Fine Arts Academy (1918); Salons of America (1925, 1927, 1929, 1931-32, 1934); Society of Independent AArtists (1924-26, 1938); WMAA, 1937; GGE, 1939; and Virginia Museum of Fine Art (1940). She was also a member of the Southern States Art League. She is sometimes referred to as Eleanora Gibson Houston. Two of her paintings are held in the permanent collection of the Morris Museaum of Art in Atlanta, GA.
