Military commission to Cyrus M. Johnson asking that he become Captain of the New York Militia. Morgan Lewis (New York, 1754-1844) is the son of signer Francis Lewis, and was Chief of Staff to General Horatio Gates during The Revolutionary War and attaining rank of Colonel by the end of the War. In 1801, he became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New York. From 1805-1807, he commanded the U.S. forces in New York in 1814 as Major General.
