Please enjoy browsing East2West Collection’s many distinctive Japanese antique and vintage textiles and art pieces that were collected while living nine years in Japan; as well as since returning home to the U.S. and settling in Arizona. I am a fiber and textile artist, who also works professionally as a health care provider. During my time spent living in Okinawa, Japan, I had the privilege to study Okinawan ‘bingata’ for two years. I was honored to have my ‘bingata’ textiles exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art in the International Art Exhibition in 1991 and 1992. Through my studies I learned how challenging and labor intensive this textile art is to create. Experiencing the numerous steps involved in ‘bingata’, made me even more appreciative of the lovely Japanese antique and vintage textiles I continued to collect during travels all over Japan. My interests expanded into the other areas of Japanese arts as my collection expanded into Japanese baskets, porcelain and earthenware, tea ceremony utensils and much more of authentic Japanese art.
As my research, love and appreciation of Japanese textiles and art grew, so did this Collection. It is time for me to downsize East2West Collection and to share it with others who will value these rare Japanese works of art; to secure them for future generations.
