This vintage Japanese black silk obiage sash is hand dyed with the shibori (tie-dyeing) method. You can see the large roundels decorated with gray and white tie-dyed designs. Tiny pin holes are present which indicates the stitches made during the shibori dyeing process. In Japan obiage are used to help secure the obi but this would be a lovely silk scarf, shawl or table runner.
Age: Showa Period (1926-1989). Condition: Excellent; no holes or spots. The roundels have a ‘bumpy’ texture from the dyeing technique. Size: 8”-12” width by 100” length. |
