Stamped sterling on the sterling foot rim, and an unidentified maker's mark. The Lenox mark, on the porcelain underside, with Belleek and the palette, dates this piece to the early 20th century. Featuring a fine pair of Japanese sterling salt and pepper shakers in the shape of a Samisen, a common string instrument in Japan. Smaller holes for the pepper and larger holes for the salt. Very well made with sliding doors for filling. Strings are free form. Stamped sterling and 950. Measure a little over 4 1/4" long. Gorgeous Japanese porcelain tea cup/saucer with fine decoration painted by hand in the late 19th century in the Arita/Imari area of Japan.
