Featuring a superb antique Japanese Meiji era cloisonne enamel basse taille cabinet vase with two koi. Beautiful basse taille engraving on fish and other sea plant life under the transparent enamel. Fish realistically rendered and almost seem to be moving, as light hits them in different spots. Just amazing! Measures 3.5" high x 2.5" wide. Dates to the early 20th century. Very fine Japanese cloisonne enamel cabinet vase, just under 5" tall. Beautiful sculptured silver wires outline the colorful lavender poppies with very fine detailed wires and the beautiful leaves in various shades of green. A red flower adds a nice contrast. A lovely bouquet on the reverse with buds, flower and grasses is a bonus. The intricate boarder and overall excellent workmanship are indicative of the Hayashi workshop. Featuring an unusual and well carved tiny netsuke of Kinko riding a carp, the subject taken from a legend in Japan. In the book, Legends of Japanese Art, there is an interesting paragraph written about this subject. This netsuke is very well carved, the feet and hand details being quite precise, plus every detail is excellent. The surface of the carp is textured and his eyes are inlaid with baylene. A Japanese napkin ring with transparent enamel over silver foil dating to the late 19th century. With 8 stylized cranes made with silver wires and various shading. Very well done.
