Featuring a superb antique Japanese Sumida Gawa mug/cup with sage and snail. The sage, standing on a rock, is holding a book in one hand with blue writing. He is looking down at the snail, perhaps there is a Japanese story or symbolism behind this motif.The expression on his face is superb, as is all of the detail and workmanship. Featuring a dramatic and wonderful Japanese studio Hirado porcelain plate with a mythological 4 footed beast with a dragon face, possibly an unusual form of a kirin, and a long coiled dragon, both facing each other and ready to attack. Dating to the last half of the 19th century. Measures 9 3/4" in diameter. Very good condition with no chips, cracks, restorations. There is some surface wear with light scratches. Featuring a wonderful Japanese porcelain plate made by Fukagawa in the late 19th century. The scalloped 6 1/4" plate with the 24 petaled kikumon design is fairly rare. At least six different patterns alternate in blue, orange, white and much gold. 2 blue rims surround the foot rim on the underside and the Fukagawas signature mark, a blue underglaze Mt.
