Fine Antique Miniature Japanese Satsuma Incense Jar
Featuring a charming miniature Japanese Satsuma 4 sided, footed incense jar. Four finely painted scenes: women and children in Japanese domestic scene, landscape with pagodas and waterfall, white dove and smaller blue bird amongst wisteria and, lastly, a yellow bird with purple iris and butterflies. The wisteria on the side carries over to the cover on one side, and on the other, the iris carries over to the cover. Touches of raised enamel, much gilding/gold outlines and stippling. Nice black and red borders at neck and shoulder with finely painted gold designs found on better Satsuma pieces.Fine gold finial on cover and borders. Rare shape/size, measuring 2.25" wide/deep x 2.5" high. Cover measures 1" square. Dates to the Meiji era, circa 1900. Signed with gold symbols/characters on black background. Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, dings, scratches, damages, restorations! Very good piece that can hold its own in any fine collection of Satsuma. Workmanship is very similar to Kaizan or Hankinzan, but have not identified this signature which may be abbreviated. Satisfaction guaranteed or full refund providing item returned in sent condition. 3 day return privilege. Buyer pays postage and insurance. New York state residents pay postage and insurance unless valid resale certificate provided with sales tax number.
