Royal Copenhagen Vase Japanese Studio Porcelain Style
$395.00

In the volume entitled "Nasser B. Khalili Collection of Japanese Art Meiji No Takara Treasures of Imperial Japan, Ceramics Part I Porcelain", there are many pages devoted to the great artist of Japanese studio porcelain, Makuzu Kozan. In addition to this, there is a long chapter on "Ceramic Interplay Copenhagen and Japan during the 1880s and 1890s" by Vibeke Woldbye. The Royal Copenhagen vase that is being featured here is a brilliant and an illustrative example of the influence that Japan had on the Royal Copenhagen company, and their artistic manager, Arnold Krog. I have never seen a piece as this over the many years that I have been selling antiques and consider it to be rare and unique. The similarities between it and Japanese studio porcelain are astonishing. This Royal Copenhagen vase has a rich and beautiful subtle green glaze that fades into a gray-green on the back side. The plump roosters are a typical Japanese motif, as is the cascading green leafy branch with fluffy white blossoms touched with brown. The shading, grasses and overall effect are simply gorgeous and worthy of any fine Japanese studio porcelain piece. In addition to the pictured marks on the underside, there is an impressed mark A 294. I am not sure what this stands for, but the A could be for Arnold, the artistic director that I have mentioned, but I am not sure. The shape is most pleasing. This vase measures about 7 1/4" high, the base is 2 1/2" in diameter, and the opening is 3/4" in diameter. The entire piece is in perfect condition. Return privilege if not completely satisfied providing item returned in sent condition within a few days of having received it. Postage/insurance extra. New York buyer pays their local county sales tax on item and shipping charges unless valid tax number with resale form provided.
