Sentimental jewelry was quite popular in the Victorian era when overt expression of emotions was highly checked. Often these items contained hearts and flowers, frequently together. Gifts of this kind were one way to express one's sentiment to a loved one, be it friend or family. These tiny heart earrings, with lovely engraving of leaf and floral design on the front side, are just one example. English in origin and probably 15kt yellow gold (not tested), today these would make the same impr ...click for details

Paste jewelry became popular in England and France during the 18th century due in part to the demand of the middle class for inexpensive jewelry. Additionally, the upper class often carried paste jewelry on their travels to help deter highway robbery. The definition of paste is "high content leaded glass which is faceted to imitate gemstones" and is usually backed with foil to enliven the color. The stones were cut by the same diamond cutters who cut the more expensive stones; and t ...click for details

I do love the dogs!! And here is another wonderful brooch, 18kt yellow gold, retriever or hound dog..not one but 2. One with a ruby collar with a bright white diamond at the throat; the other with only a diamond. There is a simple white gold chain connecting the two as if on a leash together.
Simply wonderful and a beautifully realistic rendering. The pin measures 2 1/4" across and weighs 8.9 dwt (13.9 grams) Condition excellent.

An absolutely magnificent and finely hand painted reverse crystal stickpin depicting a most adorable terrier. This technique was a labor of love as the jeweler takes a piece of rock crystal that has been rounded and smoothed out and then carves out the image from behind! It is then painted from behind, in reverse, and usually backed with mother of pearl. This little cutie has an open back so you can see the actual workmanship of the piece (last photo). This piece is extremely well painted wi ...click for details
