The end of World War I brought with it a desire for clean and modern looks in clothing and jewelry. In this age of the Flapper, the "pools of light" necklaces became a very popular look, as they were often worn as a fashionable accessory and shimmered beautifully in the low lights of the speakeasy. Increased travel to the Orient brought with it an interest in the art, jewelry and style of the East.
Chinese in origin and referred to as "pools of light", these crystal orbs of rock crystal are never drilled as the Chinese believed that this would allow the spirits and the good luck from within to escape. Instead, they are wrapped in silver wire and metal and held together by silver rings. The crystals take on the color of the fabric against which they rest and reflect other tones and hues in an almost magical manner. Cool and relaxing to the touch, they take on a meditative quality.
35 beads each measuring 5/8 of an inch in diameter.
28" long (14" from top to bottom when worn)

Chinese in origin; usually made for the English market.

It's finally Spring and these lovely flowers climbing up the ear are the perfect expression. Incredibly comfortable; constructed of 18kt yellow gold, the beautifully textured triple layers of leaves each center a round diamond for a total of approximately 0.15 carat on each earring. In the Victorian era, dogs were indispensable to domestic life. They were THE house pet and became as popular as they are today. Victorians loved their pets so greatly that some often had them stuffed so they could be around forever! In the symbolism of the era, dogs meant fidelity and in this beautiful necklace with a detachable locket, the love of the owner's dog is evident while she probably wore this everyday! What I particularly love about this piece, are the photographs inside; fidelity emphasized inside and out. Lovely and completely Victorian yet amazingly modern and wearable today. The sweet little pug is handpainted on the front of the locket; the reverse is plain and so, in essence one could wear it either way. Condition is very good with a few minor scratches indicative of the age of the love of its prior owners. Circa 1880 and English in origin.
