| Edwardian filigree diamond ring containing a central old european cut diamond weighing approximately 1.25 carats with a warm, slightly colored hue and great life;I color, VS clarity. Around the side and on the shoulder are 6 additional diamonds, highlighting the beauty and intricacy of the platinum. Platinum had only recently been 'discovered' and the Edwardian jewelers took much advantage of its tensile strength and used tiny tools to carve beautifully intricate designs into the metal. This was something they could not have done earlier as the only white metal was silver - not having the strength to withstand the overall lacy and open design. On the shoulders are two little flashes of synthetic emerald, highlighting the cut out work. Synthetic colored stones were typically used as highlight. Inside the shank are remnants of initials engraved in script; a faint reminder of the one who once loved and wore this ring often. The condition is very good. Circa 1900 Size 6.5 and can easily be resized. NOTE: Diamond weights and grading are approximate as the stone has not been removed from the mounting. | |||||||||
