| Beads are in this year and this is a most unusual strand! These wonderful old beads are known today as King beads, dating from the mid 1800's to early 1900's. The name refers to the legend that says these beads were worn by African Chiefs (Kings) as adornment and also to show respect for the King's position. During the height of trade and import of African goods in the mid 19th century, these beads became a means of barter and became quite popular. These beads are 18 pieces of amber separated by 19 king beads. Pitting and a few worn areas are a normal part of their patina, attesting to the age and use. Strung on string with a silver clasp. Condition: Very good Length: 20" Weight: 191.2 grams (122.9 dwt) Circa: 1930-1950 | ||||||
