This oil painting is of a schooner at sea with some other ships in the background. The painting is 14 ½ X 18 ½ inches. The painting is unsigned but we are attributing it to James Gale Tyler. The painting has a light from the cabin that can be seen reflecting across the waves which is pretty common in Tyler’s painting. The moon can be seen in the background. This charming oil painting is of a mother dog and her pups. The painting is well done and portrays the dogs in a stable. Clemence Nielssen (1842-1928) was Austrian and was known for her paintings of animals and genre. She exhibited in both Austria and Germany. This is a unique portrait on ivory in that it portrays a young lady wearing a bowler hat. The portrait is set in a gold frame with a clasp for hanging to wear it as a necklace. The frame for the portrait is unmarked but it was tested by a jeweler and it is 14k gold. The frame is housed in a red leather case. The gold frame not including the clasp is 2 7/8 by 2 1/8 inches. This oil painting on board is of a basket of cherries. The cherries are depicted in a very detailed fashion. It is signed M. Hess. We believe it is by Marcel Hess. The painted dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. There is a partial sticker on the back of the board abd it has a New York address. The frame is in excellent condition with no damage. The painting has a small area of crackle on the bottom right. The painting is 19 by 12 ½ and the frame is 22 ½ by 16.
