| This watercolor in the impressionist style is by Alfons Bach. The painting is 16 inches by 12 1/4 inches. It is framed and matted in a black frame that is 22 ¼ inches by 18 3/4 inches. This painting is from 1989 and was titled “Baden-Baden” by the artist. There is also something written under Baden Baden which I believe is in German. Mr. Bach himself was from Germany. The painting and frame are in excellent condition. Alfons Bach lived from 1904 to 1999 and was a noted industrial designer and leader in the Modernist movement. In addition, Bach was also a noted painter. His oils and watercolors were featured in numerous exhibitions in the United States and Europe. He was a member of the Philadelphia Art Alliance, and the Silvermine Guild of Artists. He exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art 1934, 1936, 1938, the American Designers Institute in 1942 (prize), the Modern Museum of Art, the New Jersey State Museum, the Philadelphia Art Center, the Riverside (California) Art Association, the Los Angeles Art Association, the Newark Museum of Art, the Rockford Art Association, the Babcock Gallery 1948, the Silvermine Guild of Artists 1950, and the Stamford Museum 1954. In 1994, Bach donated his drawings and papers to the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, where they remain today, as well as, the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Bach is a member of Who’s Who in American Art. He is also listed in Davenport’s Art Reference & Price Guide. Shown below is some information on the Baden Baden racetrack as provided on their website. “For 150 years top class horses, owners, trainers and jockeys have found their way to Iffezheim at the bottom of the Black Forest. There are three meetings each year - the Spring Festival in May, the Great Festival Week in August and the Sales & Racing Festival in October. The Great Festival Week is the highlight of the German racing season, also from a social point of view. This is particular true this year as the racetrack at Iffezheim celebrates its 150. anniversary. In 1858 Amazone was the first winner here. The track was founded by French man Edouard Bénazet, owner of the famous gambling house "Spielcasino" at Baden-Baden. In 1872 the Internationale Club was founded to run things and is still going strong. Racing at Baden-Baden is a fantastic experience as the region so close to the French border has plenty of things to offer - apart from top class racing. “ | ||
