Traditionally the style and shape of these old Tibetan wool boots was used by all Buddhist monks, and were considered part of the monks costume. The specific decorative cut pattern and colors of fabric indicated the area of Tibet and the position of the Monk. I am not able to identity the Tibetan region or station of the monk who worn this particular pair of boots

This very old short strand of Tibetan prayer beads has its original leather thongs with silver counters. There is one crudely faceted cornelian bead (very unusual) with is used as a spacer. The other spacer beads are agate. A combination of coral and bone are also used.

Multi-layered costume denotes high status on this antique Japanese male doll. He is 10 inches tall, seated with his feet tucked under him. There is a crack behind the ear on one side of the head and some loss around the ear and hairline on the other side of the head. The exterior kimono is in good condition but the fine silk of the under layers has deteriorated.

This pair of Chinese Lotus shoes dates to the early part of the 20th century. The vamp is made by combining both black and blue cotton background fabric, which was hand sewn and intricately detailed. Each side is decorated with an embroidered floral motif using cotton thread.

This charming old doll was produced in China during the 20's and 30's for the European and US market but this one was actually brought to the US by a military family stationed in Japan. The costume is elaborately embroidered using both satin and couching embroidery stitches. The tightly fitted shoes are fabric and could be removed but never have been. This pair of small child's shoes have a wonderfully expressive embroidered face of a bearded foo dog. A purple silk fabric was used for the vamp and with the exception of the worn soles, these shoes are in wonderful condition.

Sold 

From Yunnan Province, this minority hand woven open container has wonderful age and patina. The wife said it was used at family dinners for pouring wine, the husband said used for pouring tea. I just smiled and nodded in agreement. The piece was obviously woven tight enough to contain liquid. There is a small piece of bamboo inserted into the basket spout which aids in controlling the flow. Condition is very good and the piece measures 8" x 5" high.

Late 19th century Silver Berber enameled bracelet from Tiznit, almost 2 inches high (4.5 cm). Closed, the bracelet interior diameter is 2.25 inches. With the pin removed and the clasp opened the diameter is widened to 2.75 inches which permits bracelet to slip easily over average womans hand. Bracelet weighs .5 lb. Silver grade is unknown and assumed to be very low.
